Economist and Development Coordination officer at the UN office in Egypt
Arun Jacob works as Economist and Development Coordination officer at the UN office in Egypt leading SDG knowledge generation, UN’s country diagnostics work, providing policy advise, and contributing to the coordination of UN activities in Egypt.
Prior to this role, he worked at the UN Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) in Bangkok within the team that coordinated the ESCAP support for SDG implementation in the Asia-Pacific region. Arun was one of the key organizers of the annual Asia-Pacific Forums on Sustainable Development and supported several countries in SDG implementation process. He conducted extensive policy research on sustainable development and managed several technical cooperation and capacity building programmes.
Arun also worked at the global level within the UN Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) in Geneva on harnessing technology and innovation for sustainable development and building consensus between countries in this area.
Prior to joining the UN, Arun worked as an Economist within the President’s Office of Tanzania, where he was selected to the core team that developed the five year and fifteen-year national development plans. He also advised client Governments at Oxford Analytica.
He is the lead author of several UN flagship reports and has published in peer-reviewed journals.
